Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, directed by Lexi Barnett with musical direction by Leischen Moore.
Auditions will be held Sunday, January 7th and Monday, January 8th at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set between the times of 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm-10:00pm on Monday. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, January 9th.
It seems especially fitting that the first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent '60s, should have at its center a social and political rebel. Jesus' meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As his radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge, and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.
Please prepare a song of 32 bars in the style of the piece to showcase your acting and vocal abilities. This musical audition will be used to evaluate both your voice and acting abilities. All roles are available and all ethnicities are welcome to audition.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
TLT is seeking actors of all ethnicities and genders for this production.
Jesus Christ
Called both the “Son of God” “King of the Jews.” Leads 12 apostles. Seeking a strong, soulful presence who can truly hold their own on stage but is also generous of energy. Jesus has to walk a path no one understands and must fight to maintain trajectory against great external and internal obstacles.
Judas Iscariot
One of the 12 apostles. A good person. Close to JC. Perhaps the closest. Socially conscious. Tries to “walk the talk.” Willing to do what it takes to affect the change he feels is right.
Mary Magdalene
Mary is/was a prostitute who now follows Jesus. She struggles to contain and define the love that is between them.
Pontius Pilate
Pilate is the Governor of Judea. He is able to see the bigger picture and does not wish to become involved in the condemning of Jesus but he struggles to keep his feet under him as the stream becomes a river and takes his place in the story almost against his will. He is a strong intelligent leader. He is capable of violence but there is a spark of compassion and conscience as well. A complex man.
Simon Zealotes
One of the 12 apostles. Simon feels Jesus should use his momentum in leadership to fight Rome and gain freedom for the Jews.
Peter
One of the 12 apostles. Peter denies knowing Jesus despite his protestations when Jesus tells him this will come to pass.
Caiaphas
High priest of Jerusalem who has Jesus brought to Pilate to ask for Jesus’ execution. See Jesus as a threat to the nation.
Annas
Priest under Caiaphas who also sees Jesus as a threat that must be handled.
Herod Antipas
King of Galilee. Herod is connected to the execution of John the Baptist and accounts of him suggest he was susceptible to sexual manipulation. Christ is brought to Herod when Pilate at first denies it is in his jurisdiction to condemn him.
