The scarlet pimpernel

Tacoma Musical Playhouse
April 8 through May 1, 2016

Back by popular demand THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL is an action adventure show based on the famous 20th-century novel about the French Revolution: the battle for Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL is a powerful and passionate story of love and heroism against a background of revolution. The book and lyrics by Nan Knighton are at times funny and at others electrifying. Frank Wildhorn’s music is moving and passionate. This show is a terrific way to learn about 18th-century French and British history.

NOISES OFF

lakewoodplayhouse_77thseason_Arcadia3-01.png

Lakewood Playhouse
April 15 through May 8, 2016

Called the funniest farce ever written, Noises Off presents a manic menagerie as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing's On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.

SECOND SAMUEL AUDITIONS

Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for the Puget Sound premiere of Pamela Parker’s heartwarming story Second Samuel, directed by Chris Serface.

It was a simpler time in the late 1940’s, especially in South Georgia in a sleepy little town called Second Samuel. The Great Depression was quickly fading into memory, the war had been won, and "Give 'em Hell Harry" was still president. Folks in Second Samuel were ready for things to settle down and get back to normal. Except—this was the summer Miss Gertrude passed away, and deep dark secrets were about to be revealed. Nobody could have imagined how the death of one sweet little old lady would turn the entire town upside down.  Would anything ever be normal again?

Roles are available for 7 men and 4 women.  Men: B flat 18-25, Frisky 35-50, US (black) 30-50, Mansel 30-60, June 35-60, Mozel 60-80, Doc 45-70) Women: Omaha 35-50, Jimmy 25-40, Ruby 20-30, Marcella 30-60.  Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue.

Auditions will be held Sunday, September 27th and Monday, September 28th at Tacoma Little Theatre.  Audition appointments will be set between the times of 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm-10:00pm on Monday.  Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, September 30th.

To reserve an audition time, click here to email, or call our Box Office at (253) 272-2281. Please provide: your name, phone number, email address, preferred audition time, and playable age.

A DAY IN THE DEATH OF JOE

Tacoma Little Theatre presents Peter Nichols’ A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, directed by Marilyn Bennett, on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 7:30pm.

Married couple Bri (Jed Slaughter) and Sheila (Deya Ozburn) have a daughter named Josephine who was born with severe disabilities. Although the wheelchair-bound Joe is unable to move or speak, Sheila insists there is some possibility her daughter could get better. Bri, who deals with his emotional suffering through vicious black humor, has no such hopes and grows increasingly preoccupied with horrific fantasies about ending the family's suffering once and for all.   Also featuring Kathi Aleman as Grace, Gretchen Boyt as Pam, Liberty Evans-Agnew as Joe, and Wade Hicks as Freddie.

When originally produced in 1967, this dark story was extremely controversial, but lauded as an immensely moving and profound play about love and marriage.

Rabbit Hole Auditions

Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for its production of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize winning, Rabbit Hole, directed by Suzy Willhoft.

Painful, poignant, and often funny, Becca's experiences lead her to find solace in a mysterious relationship with a troubled young comic-book artist, Jason - the teenage driver of the car that killed Danny. Becca's fixation with Jason pulls her away from memories of Danny, while Howie immerses himself in the past. Ouroboros Shadow Pictures Presents: THE HISTORY OF WAKING UP

Ouroboros Shadow Pictures, based in Oakland, CA, is one of the foremost touring shadow-theater companies in the United States. Their specialized methods of shadow-cinema set their work apart from that of other shadow groups. This summer, they are proud to premiere their newest work at Tacoma Little Theater. In town for one night only, this intimate, not-to-be-missed performance promises to be unlike anything you have seen. As it sweeps with sound and visual intrigue, this emotional tone-poem reaches for the corners of memory by speaking to the desperation of everyone’s “too late”.

THE HISTORY OF WAKING UP will show at 8pm on Saturday July 25th.

The story follows two people through their nightmares and fantasies, painting a haunting picture of solitude, memory and parallel realities. Set after a tragic incident in the lives of the characters, this story explores their perceptions of time and their struggles with loneliness. When the line between the real and the imagined begins to disintegrate, the collective journey of both characters becomes clear. Important note: this is not a puppet show and may not be appropriate for children under 13. In the spirit of Ingmar Bergman, the show offers character perspectives that are both undesirable and necessary.

THE HISTORY OF WAKING UP is written and performed by Alisa Javits and Adam Lipsky. A visual artist and musician respectively, the two founded Ouroboros Shadow Pictures in 2013. Alisa is the primary designer, builder and performer of the sculptural shadow art, which is used as props in the productions; Adam is responsible for the music and sound elements of the productions. The company has toured frequently and grown rapidly since its founding. Their ongoing efforts are aimed at creating evocative narratives with original music and immersing visual environments. Behind the giant freestanding shadow screen, sound and cinematography are created live, charging each performance with the energy of improvisation. The audience is brought in and surrounded by the full-room expanse of the shadow world.

The show runs 50 minutes without an intermission.

Reservations are recommended: $12 advanced / $17 door.

Tickets can be purchased online here, or at the Box Office open T-F 1-5 (253-272-2281).
