Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for its production of The Pillowman, directed by Blake York.

Auditions will be held Sunday, February 11th and Monday, February 12th at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set between the times of 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm-10:00pm on Monday. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, February 15th.

Martin McDonagh echoes the works of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm in this New York Drama Critics' Circle and Olivier Award winning script. The Pillowman is a viciously funny and seriously disturbing tale of Katurian, a fiction writer in an unnamed totalitarian state. Katurian and his brother Michael are brought in for questioning by two bulldog detectives, Tupolski and Ariel, when the content of his short stories - which involve disturbingly gruesome tales - begin to resemble real-life murders. The Pillowman weaves between reality and storytelling; and the result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.

Please prepare a contemporary monologue not to exceed 2 minutes.  Part of the audition may include a cold reading.  Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.  All roles are available: Katurian (male late 20s-mid 30s), Michal (late 20s-mid 30s), Tupolski (male or female mid 30s or older), Ariel (male or female med 30s or older), Mother (female, any age, non-speaking), Father (any age, non-speaking), Girl (age 8-13, non-speaking).

To reserve an audition time, email tlt@tacomalittletheatre.com, or call our Box Office at (253) 272-2281. Please provide: your name, phone number, email address, preferred audition time, and playable age.  Bring a headshot and resume to your audition.

Once cast, The Pillowman will run from Friday, April 20, 2018 to Sunday, May 6, 2018.

Michal: Playable age: Late 20s-mid 30s, male. Lines 175+ Katurian’s brother. Childlike innocence. Tupolski: Playable age: Mid 30s or older, male or female, Lines 250+ “The good cop”. Sardonic, funny, straightforward, intelligent, controlled. An investigator, less violent and aggressive, but very unfeeling. He is the hero and the brains of the operation.

Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for its production of Henrik Ibsen’s classic, A Doll’s House, adapted and directed by Marilyn Bennett.

Auditions will be held Sunday, November 4th and Monday, November 5th at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set between the times of 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm-10:00pm on Monday in 10 minute increments. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, November 7th.

A story so controversial in its time that party guests were asked not to discuss it for fear of starting a fight, lauded by playwright George Bernard Shaw for challenging societal norms, Henrik Ibsen’s play features Nora Helmer: a woman in the role of a typical housewife, treated like a doll, harboring a secret debt for saving her husband’s life. Her debtor, now an employee to her husband, threatens to reveal her secret to her husband in order to save his own job. Nora finds herself faced with a difficult moral dilemma between the sacred values of her marriage and family versus her independence.

Adults: Please prepare a one minute off-book monologue. You will also be asked to read one or two short sides from the script.

Children: Young actors, ages 6-10, please bring a short poem, nursery rhyme or song (memorized); children will also be asked to read from a brief side. Please try to book your child into an early slot so they are fresh for their audition.

Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for its multiracial production of the noir classic, Laura, written by Vera Caspary and George Sklar, and directed by Randy Clark.

Auditions will be held Sunday, February 3rd and Monday, February 4th at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set between the times of 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm-10:00pm on Monday in five-minute increments. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, February 6th.

When Mark McPherson first falls in love with Laura, he knows he's in love with a phantom—for Laura is dead, and he's in charge of her murder investigation. From her portrait, her letters, her personal effects, and from his contacts with the three men who loved her, Mark has created an image of a woman tantalizingly alive and real.  As the detective grows obsessed with the case, he finds himself falling in love with the dead woman.  What really happened to Laura?

Actors are asked to prepare a two-minute memorized monologue of your choice.

Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition and all roles are available:  Mark McPherson (male, 30-45), Danny Dorgan (male, 16-20), Waldo Lydecker (male, 40-50), Shelby Carpenter (male, 30-35), Bessie Clary (female, 30-60), Mrs. Dorgan (female, 40-50), Officer Olsen (male, 25-35), A Girl (female, 20-30).

To reserve an audition time, follow this link (http://castingmanager.com/audition/info/bSvF0TGCZmLyRXa), or call our Box Office at (253) 272-2281.

Once cast, Laura will run from Friday, April 26, 2019 to Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Role Title: A Girl
Gender: Female
Age Range: 20 - 30

Description: A young, self-assured, beautiful and deceptive woman, she is equally alluring and manipulative. It is very hard to get a bead on whether her stories are true, false or somewhere in between. She holds the answer to the mystery, but will not give up any details easily. She is the product of her environment and her success, which she acquired through hard work (or was it because of her charms?). She should keep the audience and the other characters onstage on the edge of their seats and fully relaxed at the same time.

Role Title: Officer Olsen
Gender: Male
Age Range: 25 - 35

Description: He is McPherson's subordinate, a police officer.

Role Title: Mrs. Dorgan
Gender: Female
Age Range: 40 - 50

Description: Danny's overwrought mother, she is frayed at the ends, possibly even suffering from some neurosis. She has sacrificed everything to provide the very best for her son, Danny, and she sees him wasting his talent on his affectations for Laura.

Role Title: Danny Dorgan
Gender: Male
Age Range: 16 - 20

Description: A musical protege, he and his mother live two floors below Laura in the same building. He is a classical pianist, with his eyes on Julliard, but his real passion is the jazz music of the era. He was also in love with Laura, much to his mother's dismay.

Role Title: Waldo Lydecker
Gender: Male
Age Range: 50 - 60

Description: Waldo is best described as an elitist and eccentric. He is a relatively well-known writer, and considers himself an aficionado of all things artistic and intellectual. His manner is theatrical and grandiose and he enjoys playing people off of each other. He treated Laura as a pet project, and was also in love with her, though he recognized the foolishness of this unrequited love.

Role Title: Mark McPherson
Gender: Male
Age Range: 30 - 35

Description: Lead detective on the Laura Hunt murder case. He is shrewd and guarded with a dry sense of humor. Not attractive in a conventional sense, but lean, vibrant and masculine. He has fallen in love with Laura through his interviews with her friends and family since her death, though he never met her when she was alive. He walks with a slight limp.

Role Title: Shelby Carpenter
Gender: Male
Age Range: 25 - 30

Description: Shelby was Laura's fiance. He was born and raised in the South, and has the mannerisms of a well-bred gentleman, as well as the hypocrisies. He loved Laura, but felt threatened by her individuality and independence. He is either naive or plays the part in order to keep people around him at ease, but there is definitely a sense of much more lurking beneath the surface. Has a slight Southern accent.

Role Title: Bessie Clay
Gender: Female
Age Range: 30 - 60

Description: Laura's maid and close professional friend. Bessie knew all of Laura's secrets and kept them to herself. Absolutely loyal to Laura and she remains so even after her death. She is opinionated and very outspoken, if you can get her to talk. She recognizes authority but has no respect for it. She is superstitious yet practical and full of common sense.

Auditions for JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

Sunday, January 7th from 6:00pm-9:00pm
Monday, January 8th from 7:00pm-10:00pm
Auditions by appointment only

1718TLTJesusChristSuperstar.jpg

Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, directed by Lexi Barnett with musical direction by Leischen Moore.

Auditions will be held Sunday, January 7th and Monday, January 8th at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set between the times of 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm-10:00pm on Monday. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, January 9th.

It seems especially fitting that the first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent '60s, should have at its center a social and political rebel. Jesus' meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As his radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge, and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.

Please prepare a song of 32 bars in the style of the piece to showcase your acting and vocal abilities.  This musical audition will be used to evaluate both your voice and acting abilities.  All roles are available and all ethnicities are welcome to audition.

To reserve an audition time, email tlt@tacomalittletheatre.com, or call our Box Office at (253) 272-2281. Please provide: your name, phone number, email address, preferred audition time, and playable age.  Bring a headshot and resume to your audition.

Once cast, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR will run from Friday, March 9, 2018 to Sunday, April 1, 2018

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

TLT is seeking actors of all ethnicities and genders for this production.

Jesus Christ
Called both the “Son of God” “King of the Jews.” Leads 12 apostles. Seeking a strong, soulful presence who can truly hold their own on stage but is also generous of energy. Jesus has to walk a path no one understands and must fight to maintain trajectory against great external and internal obstacles.

Judas Iscariot
One of the 12 apostles. A good person. Close to JC. Perhaps the closest. Socially conscious. Tries to “walk the talk.” Willing to do what it takes to affect the change he feels is right.

Mary Magdalene
Mary is/was a prostitute who now follows Jesus. She struggles to contain and define the love that is between them.

Pontius Pilate
Pilate is the Governor of Judea. He is able to see the bigger picture and does not wish to become involved in the condemning of Jesus but he struggles to keep his feet under him as the stream becomes a river and takes his place in the story almost against his will. He is a strong intelligent leader. He is capable of violence but there is a spark of compassion and conscience as well. A complex man.

Simon Zealotes
One of the 12 apostles. Simon feels Jesus should use his momentum in leadership to fight Rome and gain freedom for the Jews.

Peter
One of the 12 apostles. Peter denies knowing Jesus despite his protestations when Jesus tells him this will come to pass.

Caiaphas
High priest of Jerusalem who has Jesus brought to Pilate to ask for Jesus’ execution. See Jesus as a threat to the nation.

Annas
Priest under Caiaphas who also sees Jesus as a threat that must be handled.

Herod Antipas
King of Galilee. Herod is connected to the execution of John the Baptist and accounts of him suggest he was susceptible to sexual manipulation. Christ is brought to Herod when Pilate at first denies it is in his jurisdiction to condemn him.

Though she pulls them up quickly, he thinks the incident will cost him his job as a government clerk. Louise's momentary display does not result in the feared scandal but it does attract two infatuated men, each of whom wants to rent the spare room in the Markes' home. Oblivious of their amorous objectives, Theo splits the room between them, happy to collect rent from both the foppish poet and the whiny hypochondriac.

A crowning achievement in American musical theatre, Gypsy tells the story of Mama Rose, the ultimate stage mother, and her hopes and dreams for her daughters, June and Louise. As the lights of Vaudeville are dimming, Louise steps into the spotlight as Gypsy Rose Lee and rises to become one of the most famed burlesque performers of all time. Just like Mama Rose, Gypsy is brassy, bold, and sexy.
