Tacoma Little Theatre presents Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington by Linda Britt, on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 7:30pm.  This production will be directed by Ellen Peters and stars Kathi Aleman.

Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington tells the story of scrappy and smart Maine politician Margaret Chase Smith, who served as a role model for women aspiring to national politics. As the first woman to win election to both the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate, Smith cultivated a career as an independent and courageous legislator. A Republican, Senator Smith bravely denounced McCarthyism at a time when others feared speaking out would ruin their careers (http://history.house.gov/People/Detail/21866).

This short play will be followed by a panel discussion with State Senator Jeannie Darneille, Tacoma City Councilmember Lauren Walker Lee, Playwright Linda Britt, and University of Puget Sound Associate Professor of Politics and Government Robin Jacobson. They will address questions related to speaking truth to power, the role of women in politics, and the historical impact of the McCarthy era.

Tickets for the April 27, 2017 performance at 7:30pm are $10.00 for non TLT Members, and FREE for those who are members. Tickets may be purchased online at www.tacomalittletheatre.com, or by calling our Box Office at (253) 272-2281.

"I want your fear. For your fear, like a current, rushes through your body. Your fear makes your heart pound, it renders your veins rich and full. Your fear hemorrhages deliciously within you." This new adaptation restores the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker's classic novel to the stage. As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the residents of London, they try to piece together the clues of his appearances—in a valiant attempt to save themselves from a hideous fate. Rich with both humor and horror, this play paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker's famous vampire.

Please prepare a dramatic monologue in the style of the piece.  Roles are available for 6 men/4 women and all ethnicities are welcome to audition.  Roles are: Mina-a woman in her early twenties; Harker-her fiancee, a solicitor; Lucy-Mina's friend; Seward-Lucy's suitor, head of a lunatic asylum; Van Helsing-a professor; Dracula-a Count from Transylvania.  Other roles are for waiters, attendants, maid, and vixens.

A fun twist on the Shakespeare classic!

It's 1985 and the brand new Arden Mall is hosting a high school dance. Bookworm babe Rosalind wants to go with varsity wrestler Orlando, but she's never had the guts to talk to him. Rosalind disguises herself as a frat dude named Corey and learns Orlando's true feelings for her. But things get tricky when "Corey" complicates the lives of three other couples at Arden. Rosalind will do anything to get Orlando, even if it means showing up at the dance as both herself and Corey.

Filled with memorable tunes, a hip sense of humor, pure joy and a huge heart, it all works out LIKE YOU LIKE IT if you take the biggest risk of all: being yourself.

Tacoma Little Theatre and Open Road Productions brings “theatre for the family” back to the TLT stage with, THE INCREDIBLE UNDERSEA TRIAL OF JOSEPH P. LAWNBOY, a musical, underwater adventure for the whole family.

In The Incredible Undersea Trial…actually, call it “The Joe Show” for short (we do!), we follow the tribulations and trial of Joe, a well-meaning but uninformed 34 year-old high school student (he pretends to be 17). Joe’s passion for fishing leads him underwater, where he catches his foot in a submerged grocery cart. As his UBA (underwater breathing apparatus) will sustain him for only 15 minutes, Joe is forced to ask for help from an unlikely source – Greta, the very opera singing fish he was trying to catch. Given a second chance, Joe finds himself on trial for “Crimes Against the Sea.” Will Joe be condemned by his record of blissful ignorance and cheap courtroom tricks of the prosecution? Or will he be saved by the passionate pleas of his court-appointed defense attorney?

By the end of the show, audiences may find that they've learned an awful lot about watershed protection, nonpoint pollution, and how we can all be better stewards of our environment. Does that mean they’re in for a stern talking to? Not so, says director Andy Gordon. “The show is very funny and engaging for the audience – they serve as the jury for the trial, and get to provide a lot of courtroom color, including on-cue muttering during key moments.” According to Gordon, his enthusiasm for the show is long-lived. “It’s one of those plays that just sticks with you. I was a performer in the original production, back in 1995. I was in almost 100 performances back then, and loved every one of them. I’ve looked forward to being a part of another production ever since."

The cast includes Heather Christopher and Vanessa Postil (Narrator/Judge), Mark Alford and Harrison Fry (Joe), Chelsea Pedro (Greta), Sara Geiger (Darlene), and Xander Layden (Fred). Directed by Andrew Gordon, Musical Direction by Daven Tillinghast,  and Choreography by Amy Shephard.
