FEB 6 - MARCH 1, 2009The classic masterpiece won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1953. A timeless piece of theatre surrounding the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem, Mass. The story focuses on John Proctor, a farmer, whose wife is arrested for witchcraft after being maliciously accused by their servant-girl. John brings the girl to court to admit her lie, and it is here that the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit is terrifyingly revealed as John himself is accused of witchcraft. Instead of saving his wife, he is ultimately condemned with a host of others. It is both a gripping historical drama and a timely parable for our contemporary society. Some maintain that this is Miller's greatest achievement-- even better than his heralded Death of a Salesman. Regardless, it is one of the great plays in American dramatic literature. Powerful and not to be missed.
